Located in the south of Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, 1.5 to 1.7 kilometers away from Terminal 2, the satellite hall of Pudong Airport is the main part of Phase III expansion project of Pudong Airport. The airport also reflects modern curtain wall design. It covers a total construction area of 622,000 square meters, nearly 140,000 square meters larger than Terminal 2 (485,500 square meters). With a total investment of about 20.6 billion yuan, it is the world's largest single satellite hall. As an extension of the service functions of the terminal, it is connected with the terminal through the MRT system, forming an integrated operation mode of "terminal + satellite hall", which takes on the functions of departure, waiting, arrival and transfer of passengers. The satellite hall operates together with T1 and T2 terminals, with an annual passenger throughput of 80 million. The Pudong Airport Satellite Hall has 6 floors, 5 floors above ground and 1 floor below ground. From bottom to top, there are MRT platform layer (-7.5 m), transit layer (0 m), international arrival layer (4.2 m), domestic departure and arrival mixed flow layer (8.9 m), and international departure layer (12.8 m). A VIP lounge at the top of the satellite lounge offers a panoramic view of the airport. The satellite hall has three steps and shrinks layer by layer. The first and second steps are concrete roof, while the third step is steel structure and metal roof. The total area of the satellite hall curtain wall is about 90,000 square meters.
The main facade of Pudong Airport is a glass curtain wall with large cantilevered vertical decorative bars above the height of 4 meters. The bars of glass curtain wall are 3600x1200, the width of the vertical decorative bars is 450mm, and the cantilevered glass surface is 650mm. As a large airport terminal building, the facade should be transparent and smooth, and the components should be light and simple. The maximum height of the main facade of the Pudong Airport curtain wall is 15.5 meters, the height of the standard structure floor is 8.9 meters, and the distance between the structural columns is 18 meters. How to realize the simplicity and lightness of curtain wall frame in large space and large span is the key point of this project. This project realizes the simplicity and lightness of the components through the two-story structure system: one is the inner steel structure support system, the other is the outer curtain wall silver structure system.
